14/12/2023 - Does Responsibility to Protect (R2P) have a future?
The department of International Relations and European Studies (IRES) cordially invites you to the roundtable discussion with Cecilia Jacob “Does Responsibility to Protect (R2P) have a future?”.
WHEN: 14 December, 2023; 17:00
WHERE: MUP Prague-Strašnice building, Dubečská 90/10, Room 117
MODERATOR: Šárka Kolmašová
From the prolonged war in Syria to recent wars in Ukraine and Gaza, states have shown a blatant disregard for international laws of war and human rights. The Responsibility to Protect (R2P) doctrine was approved by Member States to avoid the mass targeting of civilians, including war crimes and crimes against humanity, that we continue to witness.
What role does R2P currently play in global security politics?
What do recent wars tell us about the status of the R2P norm and the future mass atrocity prevention in global politics?
